Robert Jackson is a US patent attorney who has been based in Asia for more than 15 years. His practice centres on patent drafting, prosecution and portfolio strategy for chemical, pharmaceutical and life sciences technologies. With a Master of Science in organic chemistry, industry research experience and over 17 years in the patent field across private practice, in-house and university technology-transfer roles, Robert combines scientific depth with practical commercial insight.

Robert has prepared and prosecuted several hundred patent applications across small molecules, pharmaceuticals (including medicinal chemistry, formulations and dosing regimens), peptide conjugates, diagnostics, traditional Chinese medicine, process chemistry, OLEDs and organic and inorganic solar cells, polymers and advanced materials. His approach emphasises technically rigorous drafting and prosecution delivered in a commercially relevant, strategic framework.

Before moving into intellectual property practice, Robert pursued graduate studies in synthetic organic chemistry and asymmetric catalysis at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology doctoral programme and worked as a medicinal chemist on discovery teams targeting Bcl-2, TNF-α and antibacterial programmes at a Cambridge, Massachusetts biotechnology company. His career since then has spanned both the United States and Asia, including in-house patent counsel roles with biotech startups in Cambridge, senior roles as Director and Principal in the Hong Kong office of a leading Asia-Pacific patent firm, law clerk experience with a national US patent firm, and technology transfer, licensing and commercialisation at a major Singapore university.
